I stick to a pretty tight writing schedule, and to avoid falling into an email black hole and disappearing for an afternoon I check my email at 4 set times during the day.

I reply to client emails immediately, so you'll always hear back from me within 24hrs (barring major catastrophes or severe writers' burnout).

I love to hear from you by phone too, although on occasion I'm in the middle of an intense writing blitz or an inspired brainstorming session and the phone kinda gets growled at for making a noise. (I only get cranky with the phone though, NEVER the person on the other end.)
